To locals, it may seem like every day in San Diego could be National Taco Day, but this year, the official designation takes place on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Besides the numerous fast-food chains where you can pick up your favorite, some local restaurants are offering their tasty takes on handheld delights in case you want to start planning. This is just a partial list, if you have a favorite, let us know.
Rumorosa
Recently opened Rumorosa brings a signature upscale Cali-Baja-inspired experience to this spectacular waterfront location on Harbor Island. For National Taco Day, the restaurant will also feature a Blackened Local Swordfish taco with candied serrano slaw and citrus crema for $5. Rumorosa’s tacos are priced at $7 or $5 during Happy Hour.
In addition to a menu of salads, sandwiches, tostadas, and fresh ceviche, the restaurant’s lunch menu features a creative selection of Street Tacos, featuring the bold flavors of the adjacent border. Selections include Grilled Carne Asada with salsa verde, and avocado mousse; Smokey Chicken topped with salsa roja, and fresh pico de gallo; Citrus Pork Carnitas featuring pico verde, and cilantro; Wild Mushroom and Black Garlic with avocado mousse, and pico verde; Baja Style Fish piled with cabbage, and topped with lime crema, and chipotle crema; and Birria with beef short rib, birria jus, and crunchy radish. Brewery X Harbor Island
For taco fans yearning for a side of nostalgia with their meal, the Crack Taco featured on the daily menu at the all-new Brewery X Harbor Island offers a whimsical version of the time-honored dish. The SoCal brewpub-inspired restaurant’s shareable entrée features seasoned beef on a crunchy blue corn shell, with a slice of American cheese, and crunchy iceberg lettuce. The Crack Taco is priced at $8 and pairs perfectly with one of Brewery X’s Southern California craft beers.
