The San Diego Padres defeated the Minnesota Twins 7-5 Tuesday, clinching their ninth series win since the All-Star break.
The game was filled with back and forth moments, starting with a second inning two-out RBI single from Padres right fielder David Peralta put San Diego in front 1-0.
Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers put Minnesota in front in the fourth inning with a two-run home run. Minnesota would add another run in the fifth.
After the Padres went 12 straight hitters without a hit, first baseman Jake Cronenworth led off the seventh inning with a double, followed immediately by third baseman Manny Machado tying the game at 3-3 with a two-run home run.
The Twins took the lead right back in the top of the eighth inning thanks to a pinch-hit two-run double, putting Minnesota up 5-3.
The Twins lead lasted just as long as the Padres, as two leadoff singles followed by a three-run home run from left fielder Jurickson Profar gave San Diego a 6-5 lead. They would later add on another run to make it 7-5, which was the final score.
San Diego has clinched another second half series win, with their only series loss coming last week in Colorado. The Padres remain one game up on the Arizona Diamondbacks for the top wild card spot, while also trailing the Los Angeles Dodgers by two and a half games for the division lead.
