Ready to root for Team USA? Head to one of the two watch parties for Saturday’s U.S.-Brazil Olympic women’s soccer gold medal game.
They will be held at Novo Brazil Brewing Co. in Mission Valley and O’Brien’s Pub in Kearny Mesa.
The doors at Novo Brazil Brewing Co. open at 7:30 a.m. for a party organized by San Diego Wave FC.
Shannon Mac Millan, the team’s chief impact officer, will be available before and after the game to meet with fans and take pictures. She’ll bring along her own Olympic medals – she has one gold and one silver from the 1996 and 2000 games.
Limited edition posters of Wave FC’s two U.S. Olympians, Naomi Girma and Jaedyn Shaw, will be available.
The party at O’Brien’s Pub begins at 7:30 a.m. with the kitchen opening at 9 a.m. It is organized by the San Diego chapter of American Outlaws, a nationwide group of supporters for the U.S. men’s and women’s national soccer teams.
Kickoff at Parc des Princes stadium in Paris set for 8 a.m. The game will be televised by NBC in English and Telemundo in Spanish. Both broadcasts also are available on the Peacock streaming service.
The U.S. has won each of its past two games, 1-0, in overtime, including Tuesday’s semifinal victory over Germany. Brazil was a 4-2 winner over Spain, the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, in its semifinal Tuesday.
The Americans are fifth in the rankings compiled by FIFA, soccer’s international governing body, four spots ahead of the Brazilians.
The U.S. has won the last seven games between the teams, including a 1-0 victory in their most recent meeting, March 10 in the final of the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup in San Diego.
Fourteen of the 16 players who saw action in that match for the U.S. are on its Olympic roster.
Brazil’s 18-player roster consists of eight players who play in Brazil, six who play in the NWSL and four in Spain.
